			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Walgreens was one of the first, and is still one of the few, offline businesses that understands some of the many ways to harness the power of the Internet to save money and communicate directly with their customers. I can only guess that someone in their marketing department understood early on and was able to convey that understanding to others who listened.</p>
<p>I&#8217;ve been ordering my prescriptions online from Walgreens since about 1997. Walgreens also sends their offline mailer to their online list through email. And, of course, I can shop at their website and have my purchases delivered without leaving the comfort of my home, which saves me time and expense. </p>
<p>Time is our most precious commodity and when people can save time as well as transportation expenses, they are easily drawn to your business over others who don&#8217;t offer this benefit. It&#8217;s true that not all businesses can operate in this specific scenario, but even those businesses that can&#8217;t, are able to use the Internet to market in other cost effective ways that can increase the bottom line.</p>
<p>While many companies now have websites online, over 50% of small to medium local businesses still do not. Of those who are online, the majority (about 90%) are unaware of how to use the web to increase their marketing power and decrease their expenses. Many  still continue to spend vast numbers of dollars on offline marketing campaigns with little consideration of tracking just how successful or unsuccessful those campaigns really are.</p>
<p>Many offline businesses have websites that are literally sitting in the desert with no roads leading to their door. Web developers love to build websites and charge exorbitant prices to do so. They often convince businesses that they need a website and that the website will enhance their business. However, once the website is finished, the developer walks away and the site sits and doesn&#8217;t do much of anything for the business at all.</p>
